As we look
back on the 10th Anniversary of our war in Afghanistan, we often consider the
more than 1,800 (and growing) U.S. Casualties. But what about the damage to the
Afghan people, especially the children?
"Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the War in
Afghanistan", a traveling collection of 25 panels from International artists
and children from Kabul, Afghanistan, looks at the realities of war from an
Afghan perspective.

Windows and Mirrors: Reflections on the war in Afghanistan
In 2010, the
American Friends Service Committee put out a nationwide call to artist through
the Chicago Public Art Group and the Philadelphia mural Arts Program, seeking
contributions for a traveling memorial to Afghan civilians who have died in the
war.
The response
exceeded our expectations, Over the next few months, more than 40 muralists
donated their talents, designing and painting individual murals on sheets of
acrylic cloth. We thank them for their generosity and commitment to peace.
During the
same time, we asked Dr. Zahir Wahab, an Afghan and professor at Lewis and Clark
College, to invite a group of students in Kabul to create drawings of their
daily realities.
Together, we
believe these artworks provide a powerful witness to the horror of violence and
war.
Windows and Mirrors
is presented by The American Friends Service Committee, along with The Arkansas
Coalition for Peace and Justice and Canvas Community Church. For more information:
